Meet the Johnsons

The Johnsons are proud Truckee locals — parents, creators, and community builders. Leanne and Dean, along with their spirited first grader Layke, call this mountain town home and are thrilled to bring a new kind of gathering place to their community.

As lifelong tea lovers — and Brits at heart — their appreciation for a proper cup of tea runs in their DNA. But beyond the blends and brews, their true passion lies in creating spaces that bring people together.

Leanne spent the past 15 years leading marketing in the tech world, but as a mom in her mid-40s, she felt called to build something that sparked joy and purpose — a place that makes people smile, feel connected, creative, and at home. That dream became Truckee Teas and Slime Kitchen, two sister spaces designed to do just that.

At Truckee Teas, you’ll find a welcoming spot for all generations — where parents can unwind over loose-leaf or boba while kids laugh and play nearby. From cozy afternoon tea parties to boba flights and birthday celebrations, it’s a space built with community in mind.

Truth #3 – Tea is personal….We strive to make each cup of tea to your individual liking. If your cup is not exactly what you want, we’ll fix it!
Truth #4 – We know the value of your precious time. Though loose leaf teas take a bit longer because it is from scratch, if you are in a hurry, we can get you out the door with a tea pocket to go. Just say the word!
Truth #5 – We’re human…It is extremely important to us to provide our guests with the best service and products. Please let us grow and learn from both our successes and failures. If you have either positive comments or areas that we can improve, we want to hear about it!
